Are there any that you’re secretly (or not so secretly) hoping to get?
I guess I have a hankering to read The Iliad again, partly because my dad is reading it aloud to my (much younger) sister, and it sounds like gory fun.
Reading it aloud? Don’t mean to pry but that’s the sort of thing that seems to only happen in hospitals. Everything okay?
All good! Sorry, didn’t mean to alarm. My dad is the at-home parent, and he read to the three of us older kids until we left for college. During breakfast, waiting for appointments, in the evenings, etc. Very nineteenth century.

The Iliad is one of my top favourites, so I hope you get it. Before I read it, I thought I’d hate it and ended up just loving it! I read Angle of Repose last year and really enjoyed a different style and content for a change. Oh, I have got to read Atwood …… so embarrassing that I am Canadian and have avoided her books after one bad (and youthful) experience.
Peer pressure is not a bad thing. I have read about 30% more books than I otherwise would have because of peer pressure. 😉
I haven’t read The Iliad in ages, and I want to read the Odyssey a little more, but I like to read things in order. Glad you liked Angle of Repose!
I’m kind of behind. Good list! I’m trying to make up my big list to join the Classics Club. This might give me some ideas. I think I’m a little heavy on early 20th century women writers. I am purposefully trying to be a bit heavy on women writers, though.
Well, nobody’s going to argue with what you pick. My list is skewed heavily 20th-century, and toward sci-fi, too.
I’m arguing with myself! I even have some 21st century books on it. Maybe those are a bit much, but I got them off other peoples’ lists.
I hope you didn’t really think it was peer pressure! This should be fun.
